INCO-GCRMN node in the
Persian GULF AND OMAN SEA (ROPME SEA AREA)
In regional level and to stimulate GCRMN monitoring and
management activities in the ROPME Sea Area (RSA) during four-day regional
workshop from 14-17 December 2003 at Kish Island, Iran, under the auspices
of ROPME, IOC-UNESCO, with concurrence of all ROPME Member States INCO was
officially accepted as regional node of Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network
(GCRMN) in the ROPME Sea Area. For implementing the necessary steps
following the Kish Workshop INCO established GCRMN Office with the members
of:
1.
GCRMN-Regional Coordinator: Dr.Peyman Eghtesadi Araghi
2.
Iranian GCRMN-National Coordinator: Mr.Abdolwahab Maghsoudlou
3.
GCRMN Secretary: Mis.Mahshid Jalili
Other activities of INCO after been selected as GCRMN node in
the ROPME Sea Area are as follows:

Hold the Expert Meeting on Coral Reef Program Activities in
The
ROPME Sea Area in February 2004

Hold regular sessions for determination of framework for
action in regional and national level

Preparation of National report about Coral Reefs of Iran to
be presented in 10th ICRS,
Okinawa, Japan
Recommendations
for development GCRMN activities in ROPME member states:
1. Establish
a Regional Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (R-STAC) to assist
with the development of the GCRMN
2. Identifying
capacity building needs include: Training needs (monitoring, Data),
equipment needs (monitoring, Data-computers and software) within each
country and identifying where the capabilities to respond to these needs
already exist
3. Recognise
the national monitoring network
in each ROPME country to collaborate with Regional Node
4. Regional
capacity building through workshop and training for monitoring and data
analysis
5. Establishment
and Equipped of a Regional database center
6. Established
practices for the more effective use of coral reef monitoring to contribute
to coral reef management and planning?
7. Designing
and implementation of Coral Reefs Action plan according to the needs of each
country and region
